You know it's Hard....

Academy Award Winning Songs -- this year, these great songs are joined by the *itches & hoes song

"Damn.... You know it's hard out for a pimp."
"You ain't knowin!"

Even harder for the Academy Awards. Wonder what they were thinking? Denzel wins for playing a gangster/cop/thug, with no recognition for playing one of the most notable leaders in the free world. Halle wins for sleeping with a brother with another color.. Billy Bob is cool as a fan. Don't front. Wanda won last year for Ray. Don't get me started with Whoopie. Sidney is, or was, a wife beater. Morgan. Hey can't really say too much, just happy he didn't win for driving Miss Daisy's ass around. Louis. He is and will remain a man. But his ass was a little off in an Officer and a Gentleman. Hattie and James, well, they still didn't allow blacks to be aired, so... Cuba acted an ass, so we still can't forgive him or his freaking buffoonery. Notable black actors, actresses, and The Q, all of which failed to earn an Oscar: Dexter Gordon in Round Midnight? Oprah, even tho' I can't stand her ass, The Color Purple? Diana's drunk ass, or was she really acting, in Lady Sings the Blues? Michael Clarke Duncan, The Green Mile? Q (Quincy Jones), The Color Purple, The Eyes of Love, In Cold Blood, and For Love of Ivy? Don't get me wrong I love 3 Six Mafia, but not that damn much... Not that damn much...

loved one comment, very notable: "I am really glad Hollywood did this. It makes them all look like PIMPS."

you know what i think is interesting about this whole thing? while i dont necessarily like all of three-six's stuff, i do defend to the death their right to say it and receive whatever accolades they do. i say that because i really dont remember this same commotion from society when eminem's ass one for "lose yourself." here is a man who talks about a plethora of things including killing his wife, taking purple pills, putting his wife's body in a trunk, girl's asses, arson, being superman (not the cristopher reeve-type either),his mother never being able to see her granddaughter, choking his wife, etc.

while i do admit that my heart too started beating fast and loud as hell when queen latifah announced three-six had won, all i could think next was, "wow! even white people are interested in the pimp/hoe phenomenon." did yall see when jon stewart was like "let's see, martin scorsese zero and three-six mafia one" then proceeded to dance while singing "you know it's hard out here for a pimp?" like i ask my friends in the music industry, are you more upset when the music sells to people outside of our community or more upset when you can actually SEE people outside of our community repsonding/reacting to the music. for example, i have a friend who DISLIKES to see white people dance, sing-a-long, dress, or act hip-hop, but even he has a damn young jeezy song as his ringtone for his cell phone! it's like, hey! make up your mind!you can't be more mad at them than you are at yourself!

anyway, just my two cents about the subject. something im also interested in though is how people feel about "crash" winning best picture instead of "brokeback mountain." while i havent seen "brokeback mountain" i cant help but have the slightest feeling that there was absolutely no way that the academy is ready for a "gay" movie to have that coveted award. i can just hear them now, "look! we included you in enough movies that were nominated this year! what happened to the good ol' days when it was just a pleasure being nominated? we have to take baby steps with this. it'll be your turn next year--we promise..."

my apologies for the long post! :)

I just cant add anything more to this. I cant have this conversation with one more person ya know? I mean, I know that not everyone will see it the same way. For me, this is illustrative of the bigger picture problem. And it makes me frustrated.

you echo the feelings i posted in my Livejournal. there is about to be a another lost generation of african-american youth without jobs
because they think sticking gold teeth in their mouth and rappin about "hoes" is gonna get them paid.

the Academy and the Record Industry
is laughing all the way to the bank
on the back of our people...once again!!
